CALGARY, Alta. – Forty-one of Canada’s top women’s under-22 players have arrived in Calgary for the
National Women’s Under-22 Team selection camp, set for August 7-14 at Father David Bauer Olympic Arena.
The players in camp will be competing for 22 spots on Canada’s roster that will face Canada’s National
Women’s Team in a three-game series in Calgary from August 17-20. The final roster for the series will be
announced at the end of this selection camp.
The 41 players will be split into two rosters – Red and White – and will practice throughout the week, as
well as playing intersquad games. The teams will be joined by Sweden’s national women’s team, which will
compete against Red and White before taking on Canada’s National Women’s Team on Saturday, August 15. Each
team at the selection camp will play four games, two against each of the other two teams.
Canada’s coaching staff, comprised of head coach Margot Page (Stoney Creek, Ont./Appleby College, Can. HS)
and assistant coaches Jim Fetter (Waterloo, Ont./Wayne State University, CHA) and Stephanie White (Toronto,
Ont./Ryerson University, GBWHL), will use the camp to select the 22 players to represent the National Women’s
Under-22 Team against Canada’s National Women’s Team.
Following the three-game series, Hockey Canada’s regional scouts, along with the National Women’s Under-22
Team coaching staff, will evaluate players with their club teams, with the goal of selecting a team for the
2010 MLP Cup, scheduled for early January in Germany. |
